1. COMMENTARY
- “Sharks Circling in the Aftermath of Miers’ Withdrawal”

Last night, Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers phoned President Bush to announce her intention to withdrawal her candidacy. This morning President Bush made it official after receiving her formal letter.
Before the ink on Ms Miers’ letter was hardly dry, those who seek to keep moving America further and further away from its true foundational principles, are weaving their webs of deceit:
-- Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) stated, "The president has an opportunity now to unite the country. In appointing the next nominee, he must listen to all Americans, not just the far right."
-- Senate Minority leader, Senator Harry Reid (D-Nev), who supported Miers, called the withdrawal a victory for "the radical right wing" of the Republican Party.
-- Ralph G Neas, president of People for the American Way, criticized the withdrawal as a "complete capitulation to the far-right interest groups" and urged that President Bush "must not let the extreme right dictate his next choice."
Instinctively, Christian Patriots discern the two primary tactics of these leaders of the anti-American cause:
1. Always accuse those who represent true America as being
Dividers
2. Always accuse those who represent true America as being extremist radicals relegated to the status of fringe “interest groups”
Jude 18 – 19 clarifies who causes cultural division: “There will be scoffers who will follow their ungodly desires. These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.”
Jesus Christ recognized that a clear stand for truth will always result in division because of the prideful state of those who oppose God and His sovereignty. “Do you think I came to earth to bring peace? No, I tell you, but division” (Luke 12:51).
Acts chapter 14 describes certain leaders from the city of Iconium who “refused to believe” the truth taught by Paul and Barnabus. These dissenters “stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.” Verse 4 confirms for us the result of those who oppose God’s truth: “The people of the city were divided.”
Senator Kennedy’s advice to President Bush to “unite the country” is a thinly veiled mandate for the President to renege on his pro-American promise to nominate Supreme Court justices who will uphold the original meaning of the US Constitution.
Dividers such as Sen Kennedy attempt to claim the high ground of seeking “unity,” but all the while they insist that such unity will only occur with the adoption of their anti-American views. In the minds of the Dividers, the Republican majorities who won in 2004 must adopt the position of the losers in order to earn their twisted definition of success. Nonsense!
Likewise, these Dividers have crafted to an art form their ability to stir up the people and poison the minds of Americans by branding as extremists and radicals those who embrace the truth about America’s Christian foundation and who seek to protect/restore the Biblical principles that have resulted in the most free and prosperous nation of all time.
Let’s be crystal clear on this point…if Christian Patriots desire to keep America true to its original intent, this is not radical or extremist. It is Mainstream America. It is Pro-America.
Accordingly, those who wish to change America into something it was never intended are the only extremists and radicals.
People like Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy, and Ralph Neas are trying to change America into a different country, with a different form of government, and a different moral standard as a basis for our laws. They stand in opposition to the true America…they are against America. Yes, they are anti-America. We should not be shy about using such language. It is not rude, it is the crystal-clear truth.
As we stand boldly and fight to reclaim the ground that has been lost to those who promote an anti-American agenda, let us pray that God’s truth will prevail. Only with His truth at America’s foundation will we remain a free nation: “I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts” (Ps 119:45).
Let us pray for President Bush and his advisors that they will seek God’s will for who God would have them choose as the next nominee for our Supreme Court.

My friend Reverend Rob Schenck, Missionary to Capitol Hill and President of Faith and Action (located across the street from the US Supreme Court building), is collecting email messages that will be printed out and delivered to President Bush.
President Bush has promised us that he will choose Supreme Court nominees in the mold of Justices Scalia and Thomas…meaning the nominee will have a clear track record of judicial decisions that uphold the Constitution, especially in the face of extreme pressure from anti-American interests.
Please let the President know you will stand behind him as he makes good on his promise.
