1.  COMMENTARY

- “Echoes”

(by Rick Marschall, Managing Editor, Rare Jewel Magazine)

There has been a lot of shouting and noise in recent weeks, mostly about Terri Schiavo. Some of the noise has been good, and righteous. Some has been evil and mean-spirited. Much has been pure noise -- confusing tabloid screed, sensationalist pandering, self-serving exploitation.

But it has also filtered down to dinner tables, prayer groups, conversations in supermarket aisles.

For a moment, the nation will be quiet.

It will listen -- it will have to pause and take notice -- to the grieving voice of a sobbing mother. There are few more sorrowful situations in the human family than a child predeceasing a parent, than a mother watching her daughter die, than a family being helpless in the face of death. We can all understand that.

Mrs Schindler will sob, “Why did she have to die?”

And no one will have an answer.

Mrs Schindler will sob, “Why could no one intervene?”

And no one will have an answer.

Mrs Schindler will sob, “Why didn’t they let us take care of

Terri?”

And no one will have an answer.

The nation will strain to hear her sobs; the nation will be silent in its own helplessness. The nation will turn, and go back to its business.

But Mrs Schindler’s sobs will echo in many hearts. Christian Patriots will continue to pray, now for understanding, grace, wisdom. God forbid there be recriminations, but there will be lessons learned. It is very possible that some liberals, secularists, and “Right to Die” crusaders will pause too, as Mrs Schindler’s sobs refuse to fade away from their ears.

Why were they so hell-bent on this woman dying?

How could they be so cold as to oppose the family’s assumption of Terri’s care?

What made “the court system” more sacred than decisions in favor of Life? What kind of a country makes extraordinary exceptions for criminals, for terrorists, for reptiles, for trees… and yet bends the ages-old instincts for protection of life, and creates new “rights,” in order that a woman die of slow starvation in front of her parents’ eyes?

When did America pass to a Culture of Death, when the State sanctions the murder of an innocent person -- her only crime, having a disability; her only offense, being inconvenient to some -- and protected that murder behind a cordon of men in cheap robes and hirelings with badges and guns?

Terri Schindler Schiavo’s legacy likely will be to ignite a firestorm of reaction. We pray that her mother’s sobs end and that God minister to her wounded soul. But the echoes of the sobs will energize those who recommit themselves to restoring this culture, to re-establishing the Christian Heritage that is America’s birthright, to stop compromising with the Culture of Death. And maybe, just maybe, the sobs will reach the hearts of Christophobes, cultural nihilists, and merchants of death among us.

If not, get out of our way. We want our country back. In the name of Terri Schiavo, we will not let things like this happen again on American soil.

2.  THE DECLARATION OF DEPENDENCE IS COMING!

- Your tool for grassroots success

As the above message asserts, it is the sad truth that the attitudes that resulted in Terri Schiavo’s murder are fast becoming the norm, not the exception, in America. Our nation continues to make ever distant its Biblical heritage.

“Christophobia,” the hatred of Christians and Christian America -- the growth of prejudice, hostility, and persecution of believers -- is the focus of Rare Jewel Magazine’s next print issue, due out next week. Concerned Christian Patriots cannot afford to miss this vital focus on our Christian heritage as Americans; examples of the growing, outrageous threats to believers; and what we can all do to Restore our Land!

The centerpiece of the issue is a tool that concerned citizens can adopt -- a grassroots movement to join -- that will battle the kinds of evil threats represented by the Terri Schiavo nightmare. THE DELCARATION OF DEPENDENCE is a clarion-call to realize our rights and assert our strengths. It is a statement of belief and action. It will be a challenge to public leaders, church leaders, and to our selves, to declare where we stand on matters of faith and policy. Next week, look for and read THE DECLARATION OF DEPENDENCE… pray over it… sign it and join the groundswell to take our nation back!

Also in the next issue of Rare Jewel Magazine: exclusive interviews with H B London of Focus on the Family and Dr Ted Baehr of the Christian Film and Television Commission… Exclusive articles by Senator Tom Coburn, David Barton, William J Federer, and Michael Chapman… Essays by Dr James Dobson, Dr Virginia Armstrong, Nathan Paul Mehrens, Rob Tong, Linda Holloway, and Christina Parra Walker… Columns by Tim Ewing and Rick Marschall.

Rare Jewel Magazine’s “Christophobia” issue touches on crises in education, the media, America’s churches, the courts, and politics. History… reviews… political cartoons… the unveiling of the THE DECLARATION OF DEPENDENCE…  all in all, the “Christian Patriots’ Guide to Restoring Our Culture” -- don’t miss a chance to subscribe!
